Lion cubs are the cutest.

A world without Lion cubs would be boring, but it’s highly possible that this could happen in your lifetime.

They join this world after being inside their mothers for around 3.5 months, born blind, defenceless, a critical time for their development. The bond between mother and cub becomes very strong in this time period. After around 2 months they will be introduced to the rest of the pride and begin their social existence with their siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and their fathers.

Crested Tit. A magical and rarely seen bird. 

A rare bird in the UK, whereby you can only see these in Scotland amongst the old pine forests. Another reminder that really old forests cannot have a value placed upon them!

This little beauty was captured in Sweden amongst the snow. At around 11-12cm it is a small bird. A case of blink and you miss, these birds are very active and restless when feeding. Over 4 days we saw it 3 times.

I almost did this miss one, deleted the images in error on my card, thankfully using software I was able to retrieve it.

Golden Eagle - It’s behind you.… Let us know if you like it 🙏🏼

As the sun rose in the freezing conditions, just -11c on this day, the Magpie tried to get in on the act whilst the mighty Golden Eagle raptor has its back turned and their eyes on the prize. Captured mid flight it appears that the Magpie hovvers silently above.

Golden Eagles in this part of Sweden, nearing the Arctic Circle are doing well, the odd magpie doesn’t bother them. Daylight hours are few and far between at this time of the year. Providing around 6-7 hours daylight.

What happened next is the bird flew directly upwards with wings apart facing me, and the light shining through their wings, I still can’t decide on the best course of action with the images so I will revisit them when I feel more inspired.

Little bundles of joy enjoy themselves playing. At this time of their lives they are obvious to any potential threats. It is upto the mother to be extremely observant. Right now, in the Masai Mara Cheetah Protection Teams are assisting with warding off any perceived threats. Although at night time they are all alone.

Why do this you ask? Cheetah populations are only around 7,000, many of these reside in unprotected reserves, hunted by humans, trafficked by humans, land taken by humans, snared by humans, habitat destruction by humans… that’s a small element ignoring the natural aspect to their lives. 

Tough being a Cheetah eh?…

When you can’t see very far but in the distance a Stag stands proud.

The misty, foggy conditions always provide a challenge but really can provide an atmospheric shot.

Handsome looks Sri Lankan Leopard style. 

Big Cat side on magnificence from Sariask at  @zseabanhamzoo in what was rather dark grey overcast conditions. This day was a pleasure to help out @petemartinphotography and share some tips along the way.

Born as part of the European Breeding Programme, these big cats are 1 of the 9 sub species of Leopard. Native to Sri Lanka with around 800 adults left in the wild, it is classed as ‘Vulnerable’.

Love is in the air…. Giraffe Style

It’s certainly a challenge for these mating Giraffe’s, the bush obscures the view as the male tries to mount the female who seemed to be preferring to eat, rather than take the weight of the large male. The male followed the female everywhere she went, always behind her waiting for the right moment. Images taken in Olare Motorogi Conservancy, Masai Mara.

Attention. Snow Leopard Sunday.

The magnificent male Snow Leopard @zseabanhamzoo sitting on his rocks late in the afternoon as the light began to fade. Not long after this we would fall asleep, resting his head between the rocks. That gorgeous image coming soon.

In the wild the male snow leopard is the true ghost of the mountain, living on their own in a harsh environment at over 4,000 metres. They only meet the females for mating, certainly a solitary lifestyle.
